CLEAN SUMP OF AIR CLEANER THOROUGHLY

Whenever an air cleaner and/or element is to be removed from the carburetor, it is recommended that the complete cleaner assembly be removed from the carburetor to the bench before removing element. After removal Of element and prior to the reinstallation of new element or replacement at cleaner, the inside of the sump or lower plate should be thoroughly cleansed so that no dirt, pebbles or any foreign matter may be caught under the element or allowed to enter carburetor air horn.
INCORRECT 4 BBL AIR CLEANER USED

Due to a supplier's error, a few incorrect 4 BBL air cleaner assemblies have been installed in production on Pontiac built cars only. These air cleaners have a slightly different shape which causes interference with the carburetor throttle rod in the wide open throttle position. Replace incorrect air cleaner (identified by two locating tabs after removing cover, see Fig. 28) with correct Pontiac cleaner, having no tabs on base. Return incorrect cleaner to Pontiac Salvage. All four barrel equipped units should be checked for this installation before delivery or the first time available for service. Units built after the following vehicle
